I love Charlotte's blue glass look, but I am definitely in favor of more red brick in the future. It looks so classy.

I don't mind the blue glass if done in moderation.  Most of Nashville's new buildings are all nothing but blue glass, which makes them all look the same, unfortunately.

This is moving so fast, I think they must already have a tenant. Originally why weren't going to start this until the apartments were done and the Walgreens was going to move in there.  @KJHburg @CLT Development any thoughts

It is curious for the office tower to be started immediately unless they want to go ahead of Riverside and Crescents bigger projects which of course they can.  They may have an interested tenant and the tower being smaller needing a smaller anchor to get it going.

So surprisingly Walgreens announced they'd be closing this month, which is a shame, though I guess theres a CVS just a few blocks down the street. Demolition should be pretty imminent. No idea on tenants for these buildings, but I did take notice of the name tags people were wearing at the Riverside event.

I would say it is not big enough for the big banks and that would include US Bank which I think is looking at the 2 new office towers on S Tryon (Riverside or Crescent)

Looks like deep foundation work is being done over here too for the apartment tower.  as for now the office tower site the old Walgreens is a parking area for workers.

These two are Link Belt cranes. There has been consolidation in crane manufacturers in past decades and Link Belt is a survivor. I see them commonly around town. 

In 1972 (my golden anniversary) I worked here in Charlotte, my first job here, for the company that supplied Link Belt and many other construction machines and supplies. I was quite young, just two years out of college and one of the other employees encouraged me to think of my future because construction was a boom and bust endeavor. As the youngest person in the place I would be the first to go. The job was not a good fit for my interests so I took his advice and went in another career direction. Less than a year later the US-Arab oil embargo began a three year recession that was crippling for the construction industry and most of the economy. My timing was mostly luck.  See here:

The U. S. was adjusting to the end of the gold standard, shortly Nixon would introduce wage and price controls on the U. S. economy (yes, that happened) and many people had their lives upended. Domestic and military (Viet Nam) issues were also driving emotional disaffection. This recent era  with decades of controlled inflation, low interest, solid employment has not always been so.

Brief update on the office tower (at Walgreen site).  Architect is Gensler (who's only other high-rise in Charlotte I'm aware of is The Line).  

I like that we're getting a increasing diversity in architects on many of these recent projects.

Gensler does impressive work.  This is good news.

Second crane base was installed onsite. Saw it on my drive in. Looks like they are drilling the last of the supports. I suspect we see tower cranes late this week early next.

I saw them put the base in too! I think the footing has to cure for the second crane so it may be another few weeks before this specific one goes up. The first crane by Walgreens should definitely be popping up in a week or so!
