White Lodging Services has purchased the .61 acre lot at 127-131 8th Ave. South (NW corner of Demonbreun and 8th Ave. South) for $35 million, and is rumored to have plans for an unknown brand tower that could range between 30 and 50 stories, zoning allows for that on that corner. 

The previous owner, Al Ganier, paid $1.2 million for the lot in 2005.  The sale works out to $1,317 per sq. ft.

White Lodging also owns the Marriott Nashville Hotel at 2555 West End Ave.

My only fear is they will do another crappy building which they are well known for. They do not do nice buildings at all.

Blerg..... Maybe one or two decent buildings in the portfolio, both of which happen to be JW Marriotts, and we already have one .

I’d imagine the scale will at least be impressive if not the design, especially at that price for the land. Excited to see what’s to come

Hopefully the ridiculous land cost will push them to do something grand with the site. Or on the other hand, they could try to shore up their ROI and build a 50 story version of Haven.

You know what?  I would actually be OK with that... because we need height at any cost!  Even if I can't look at it, just knowing it's there will make me feel better.

It is not a new record per acre as I think the Dirks Bently Building on Broadway was double that price.

This lot could use a 50 story hotel--sweet. That would amount to what, about 550 feet or so? 

Let's hope it's a nice looking tower--similar to Alcove, 4 Seasons or JW Marriott

I am not hopeful for anything spectacular at the site. The wrong group bought it IMO. Turnberry wanted the property. I will still hold out hope for the lot next to this one.

As a reminder…due to the offensive nature of some projects recently completed within the downtown core that completely complied with the Downtown Code and avoided any conversation with Planning or the Design Review Committee…all projects within the Downtown Code must go through the Planning Department now.
