The special tax district is a bit confusing. It could just be sales tax and then real estate taxes presumably goes to the city (even though the city I believe is capped in how much revenue they can collect from real estate taxes) and hotel/motel tax is divided between state and city. 

Kind of brings up another questions on the hotel/motel tax. If the state is raising the tax for the Titans stadium, how much of the hotel/motel tax does the state get versus the city?

The Downtown Code Design Review Committee has approved the 36 story tower.  A couple of minor updates announced: It is now being listed as 36 stories instead of 35;  10,300 sq. ft. of retail/restaurant space now instead of 7,695 previously; 250 below grad parking as opposed to 136 before.

It's wild that I remember just a couple of years ago when pretty much every single project was down-sizing and value engineering their original plans, but now we're trending the opposite way as nearly every project seems to be expanding upon their initial vision. Seems to bode well for where things are headed!

Yeah, totally!

I read yesterday that Nashville is only one of 4 US city markets where hotel developers are still "bullish" about--in this current economy.

So that's super positive news for hotel construction moving into 2023/24.

Am happy that this hotel was approved, I actually thought that a high rise office building or residential building would be proposed for this site. There's already several hotels in that area. It is a good location for a hotel with it being so close to the convention center. I guess there's a need for more hotels near the convention center.  At 448 ft this hotel definitely will change the skyline.

Is there  any hope that the crappy 4 story parking garage could ever be torn down for a  tall tower?  Even if they had to build replacement spaces underground, it would be a huge plus to have some real use for the site.

Almost 800 new hotel rooms approved in downtown Nashville amid hospitality boom

From the OL Tennessean... not a whole lot of new info, but at that intersection (including the Westin) there will be more than 2000 rooms. Article does not include the u/c Embassy Suites.  No flag revealed in this piece.

The footprint is boxed in by the 533-room JW Marriott to the south and brand new 215-room 1 Hotel to the east. Just down the block is the 454-room Westin hotel.

Indiana-based White Lodging also built the 296-suite Hyatt Place Nashville Downtown on the corner of 3rd Avenue and Molloy Street as well as the Marriott Nashville at Vanderbilt University, making the new SoBro hotel the developer's third Nashville project.

The new hotel, as proposed, will include 750 rooms, 10,300 square feet of retail and restaurant space, 250 below-grade parking spaces and a rooftop pool area.

White Lodging Services is seeking Downtown Code Design Review Committee's approval of their concept plan. No date has been set yet. White's has an LLC for this project called Auto Nashville Hotel.  Some think that might refer to an Autograph Hotel by Marriott flag. 

Mike Banas, White Lodging director of communications and corporate affairs, said the company expects to announce a hotel brand by 2023’s end.

“At this time, no final brand decision has been made and we continue to evaluate those [options] that reflect the quality and tier of the hotel."

White Lodging will need six floors of bonus height from the city to undertake the tower as designed., and will seek the bonus height by having the tower designed with below-grade parking and with the goal of garnering silver LEED certification from the U.S. Green Building Council.

It is not even on their website. There is no mention that they even bought the property on their website. However, I have heard through the grapevine they want to start late this year, but that is not confirmed.
