Member Appreciation thread & New Member intro

I will say we have a lot of talented folks on the forum. We have a lot of professionals and like Robert, hobbyist like Brichar4 doing the wiki page. This does not mention all of the other professionals we have on the board that are architects and engineers and the like. I have said it before and will say it again, we have come a long way from where we were in 2005 from a small group of enthusiasts to the group we have become now.

The other moderators with their contributions have added so much to the board as well and I would put this board up against any discussion forum in the country as far as knowledge and also knowing their city. I dare say the folks on this board know the history or Nashville better than most know the history of their cities thanks to Pete (MidTenn1), Randy (Baronakim) to name a few. Rookzie with his knowledge of the railroads. Guys I could go on and fail to mention all of the folks that contribute to the board and the folks that are no longer with us that were major players here.

TitanHog  is back after a hiatus dealing with personal family loss, but her humor is not lost on us. Neither is From Park Avenue LOL!

To all of our old-timers that have been with us from the start... you know who you are we got the boom we were waiting on!

We are truly fortunate to have who we have here and thank you to all from myself.  I did not know where to do this, so I just wanted to create a thread to thank you folks. This way you guys can call out a lot of folks that have stepped up to the plate.

Also please do not feel left out if you get left out because every member is valued here. Sometimes we just forget to say thank you because there are so many of you.

A personal thank you to Mark (markhollin), Taylor (downtownresident), William (EastSideUrbanite) who keep me on my toes, and contribute so much to the forum that you guys do not know about, and to Craig (Bos2Nash) whose knowledge make me feel small. Thanks to Bob (LA-TN) for getting the technical stuff taken care of and to Daniel (dmillsphoto) for sticking around even though he left us high and dry and moved to Columbus. Come back soon.

Even if I have mentioned someone, please give them another slap on the back.  I know I have failed to mention a lot of you Like John. He sometimes reads the forum and sometimes he does not. Your sarcasm and humor are missed. Again, I know I have forgotten to mention some of you because I am getting old, and my brain is turning to crap.

I will leave it to you guys to add to this. This is your time to shine.

Thanks Ron. I have enjoyed the meetings and even a few personal lunches with some of you. I saw the L&C Tower's steel frame as it rose high above the Nashville skyline and have seen every other building rise since. Indeed, I even worked in one of the towers for much of my career. And now it's exciting to see the city grow into a cosmopolitan major city, but still keeping some of its wonderful music roots alive. 

As an engineer, I've helped to build this city in a small but significant way. I'm sure everybody here has traveled through my traffic engineering projects and has lived to talk about it. I live just 3 miles from the city limits, but I am a Nashvillian. I was born here, as my father was, educated here, worked here and been entertained here. Somewhat sadly however, I will soon be a Chattanoogan as I move to be closer to my kids and grandbabies.

But I will follow the forum closely and contribute some and occasionally return to check out all the development.

I will say this, the Zoom meets have been a great success. It took off during the worst of the Covid days and I am so glad we continued it. This Saturday, Todd joined us from Europe, we had Taylor from Dallas, there was someone on from Atlanta and we had Craig on from Maryland as he could not be with us in person, plus a couple here in Nashville.

So, Bob has done a great job keeping us up and running there. We do need a backup tech person who can do this when Bob is out!

This entire community has helped make Nashville feel like home. My girlfriend and I moved here 4.5 years ago with nothing but an apartment lease signed, looking for a change of scenery. This forum is a big reason as to why Nashville has been such a successful move for me and has been a big factor in making Nashville feel like home. 

Ron, Mark, Bob, Brian, William, DJ are just a few of the folks I interact with almost daily whether in person or online and I cannot thank you and the whole UrbanPlanet community. Amazing how a simple google search for urban development forum has turned into an essential part of my everyday life.

Hey guys not only is this a good place to thank everyone, I thought this would be a great place for new members to introduce themselves if they feel comfortable with it.

A note from John aka doormanpoet, blueraider86, and about 8 other board names...LOL thanks to MetroM/ Metroboi back in the day for banning him about a dozen times and probably half the board at the time LOL.

John ran the meets in 2004-05 with Dave, Michael Keldane, Tyson, Lexy, UTGrad, and several others from the 03-06 era (The Pre Viridian era) and ran the meets in 05,06 & 07. The Monthly meets were something he & Tyson discussed back in 04& 05.

To add to this, I met John when I was working for a limo company, and he was working as a doorman at the Renaissance Hotel, and we struck up a conversation. I had been a lurker at the time and put 2 & 2 together and figured that John was doormanpoet. I started posting in 2005 and they had already had their first meetup before then. I do know that Bob was at the meet and was here before me.  

FYI Tyson was the boards first MOD. Our regular meet ups did not start until November of 2005. So, you guys can blame John on my being here and that is how I met William as well. BTW Tyson if you are out there, show your face!

Shared a tasty repast at Monique’s Meat & Three in Metro Center with Bos2Nash (Craig), a few days ago. Besides being much appreciated for his knowledgable input on the forum and contributions as one of our moderators, he's also an architect on numerous exciting developments around Music City. Topics covered in our pow-wow included Tennessee heat vs. New England summers, the crumbling of Bitcoin, pornographic bunny art, Farmer’s Market at Bicentennial Mall, carpentry, reclaiming flood plains, the revitalization of Buchanan St., King of the Hill, potential locations for a Major League Baseball Park in Music City, and more. June 14, 2022.

The Incline Railroad is great! Point Park up on Lookout Mountain is wonderful, too. It’s been a long time…I’m overdue a visit. (And I haven’t been to Rock City & Ruby Falls since I was a kid. A LONG, LONG time ago.)
