Strategic Mobility Plan

The Strtegic Mobility Plan was approved by the council last night. This will hopefully be a big deal, the plan is going to have as much influence on our future urban form as the UDO (if the SMP is implemented as conceived). The plan comes at a fortuitous time, as its framework will be critical for obtaining infrastructure bill dollars for local projects.

The Strategic Mobility Plan aims to reduce Charlotte’s dependence on cars and accommodate travel by foot, bicycle or public transit.

The plan’s overarching aspiration for 2040 is that living and working in Charlotte will not require travel by car.

The next step for city planners will be to identify and prioritize individual projects across the city.

Wish the city had committed to building out the Lightrail System way back when it was conceived.

When it was conceived the enabling legislation allowing the sales tax to fund it wasn't in affect. Another symptom of Southern mentalities which are often than not anti-urban in nature.
