and the county manager said this one is for the next 50 years.  The state tells the counties when they need to build a new courthouse and they will move into the new one then start renovation of the old one.  The state has not had to tell some counties in 200 years to build a new one as evidenced by some of the courthouses I have seen in this state.

250+ years

The jail building in Edenton operated for 165 years before replacement in 1990. Picture yourself as a prisoner. Rather, no, do not.

Things move slowly in Chowan County. Absence of fire loss is amazing to me. Candles, oil lights, etc, yet no major fire loss in the town.

Today's CBJ " Concord racks up more recognition as a top place to live on new Livability.com list" by Jenna Martin

Excerpt:  "Add another feather in Concord's cap for being recognized as a desirable place to live."  "That city northeast of Charlotte, which was just featured on Fortune magazine's "50 Best Places to Live for Families," has also landed among Livability.com's "Top 100 Best Places to Live in the U.S."   "The list highlights the best small to midsize cities with populations under 500,000 people and with a maximum median home value of $500,000."  "Livability.com noted Concord, within commuting distance of Charlotte, "is the perfect blend of a quaint Southern town and an up-and-coming metropolis."  "This vibrant city is rooted in history and has a charming downtown and close-knit community, fostering a sense of belonging," it said.  "Concord was the only place in the Charlotte metro to make the cut."

I surprised, but not disappointed, that Davidson didn't make the cut. Perhaps it is too small population wise?

I would love to know why they changed their mind after more or less indicating the project wasn't up to snuff in the last few weeks.

I heard it more based on road and infrastructure improvements instead of usual job grants they proposed last time.  I think the thinking was infrastructure will last the test of time and benefits other in the same area.

Caribbean restaurant joining food lineup at Concord's Gibson Mill Market

Elsewhere in the region, the tenant lineup at Gibson Mill Market in Concord continues to evolve as well. CharlotteFive reported yesterday on a Caribbean restaurant — Mi Isla, Island Cuisine — that has signed on there.

It's a new venture by Dennis Rhea, who's also behind catering business Bad Mother Smokers BBQ, according to C5. Patrons can expect staples like jerk chicken and cuban sandwiches.

Construction is just starting on the space.

Livy's Neapolitan Pizzeria, meanwhile, has opened its food stall at the market. That concept by the team behind Heist Brewery has a 650-square-foot space located there as well.
