Major large music venue planned for Downtown Greensboro. Would be operated by the Greensboro Coliseum who also operates the Steven Tanger Center for the Performing Arts.

The large downtown live music venue will be built on the entire 100 Block of North Church Street, as bounded on the north by E. Friendly Avenue and on the south by E. Market Street, and extending two blocks east to the railway embankment. The venue would have an outdoor amphitheater and indoor auditorium.

Everything is preliminary at this point but if I know coliseum director Matt Brown he already has a funding mechanism in place without the use of local taxpayer dollars.

It appears as though a current building owned by the city would be renovated and turned into the indoor music hall which certainly would cut construction costs.

I guess the one good thing is that most of the parking is in the back against the railroad tracks. Guess since they are using an existing building there was not much they could do having the facility at the road on the E Market Street side.  But its a nice infill project that will help generate activity along Church Street and hopefully help entice a developer to purchase the News and Record site and do something big there.
