If you're adding in Fat Sandwich, shouldn't all the rest of the Gaines Street/Railroad area stuff should go on the list? All Saints Coffee House, St. Mike's Pub, Sick Boy and Avant Garb clothing stores, CD Warehouse, The Beta Bar, What's the Point, Euphoria Tattoos, Phaze One skateboard shop, etc.

You are considering all of Gaines to be part of downtown? Not arguing, just asking for clarity please. What are your parameters for downtown and why?

People say I don't live in downtown, but Midtown (I say downtown.) I live 3 blks north of Carlos/Cypress which you include downtown. Where does downtown end on the southern end and Midtown begin and why? Just asking for the Southern border since we've already been through what "they" say is Midtown. Woodgate....Midtown...no way!

I am a geographer and these type of things can puzzle me for days. :)

Yeah, but you've got the Doubletree included, and that's past Tennessee. I'd go as far as Georgia and include the Firestone as a downtown business. There's also LeMoyne on Park and the Comedy Club across from Cypress and Carlos's. And, if you're making a real list, would you want to include the gas stations/convenience stores?

Almost forgot: also, there's the Soul Vegetarian cart that serves lunch in the plaza every week day. They're really popular. Heck, I'm a meat-eater, but their vegan mac and "cheese" is addictive.

Thanks for the maps FL.

The DIA map area is too small. It officially doesn't include the Capitol. I understand why they don't include it, but for an overall definition of the CBD, it won't work.

On the other hand, the roadway map is way too big. :)

When you get home and you can find your better map, please share it w/us.

I've heard that the Marriott prices are too steep for a new biz to try a go at Gaines. I feel w/in reason they should drop these rents to rock bottom prices and get something in there to stir up activity on Gaines. No one is going to risk it at the prices they are asking.

I've seen certain retail space providers recently offer newly built space free for the first 3-6 months. I think that strategy is a good one, when you consider the time it may take to actually find a lessee, the setup costs associated with starting a business in a given location, and the risk associated with not knowing what to expect in certain locations. I think its a win-win for all sides.

Mary Brogan to Get a Organic Shop

A wealthy donor has given the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Big Bend 10 acres of land to start an organic garden. The garden will yield produce for the club's planned organic restaurant, which they hope to unveil later this year. An exact date for the opening has not been set yet, as the clubs are still working to secure the money needed to cover start-up costs. The planned restaurant will be located at the Mary Brogan Museum of Arts and Sciences.
