Flightstar takes flight at Cecil

Aircraft Services firm expands operations to Westside site

By TIMOTHY J. GIBBONS, The Times-Union

Cecil Commerce Center's largest tenant will begin moving its operations to the Westside air field next week, part of an expansion that could see the company increase its workforce from 250 to 700 employees.

Flightstar Aircraft Services, which has been based at Jacksonville International Airport since 2000, is moving its airplane maintenance and repair facility to a hangar at Cecil Field -- the airport at the commerce center.

The building, which was used for fighter jet maintenance when Cecil was owned by the military, has been expanded and refurbished, adding bigger doors and taller ceilings. The enclosed space has also been extended, to more than 200,000 square feet, and 550,000 square feet of apron space for parking aircraft was added.
