What is going on with this old hotel? Commerce at Oakes. Rockford Construction has had a sign on it for awhile.

As the guy from Triangle and I were discussing, I think in about 5 years or so, this area will be totally tranformed, and I can't imagine the missions not cashing out as their property values go up.

Mayflower Congregational reminds me of First Presbyterian in downtown Lansing.  Here's a recent pic I took.

Yeah, it has the same Georgian Colonial style going on. I like the two small oval windows on the side with the stone. Nice pic, LMichigan.

With regards to 45 S. Division there was an article in the paper a few months back about a full renovation of those two building with an Indian Restaurant going in. At Commerce and Oaks I think Rockford wants to do some sort of residential. Maybe student housing when Cooley gets its act together?

I really like that Herrington Lofts building.

Yeah, isn't it cool. I don't know who is doing the rehab or timeline. It appears that the building had a floor added to it, back when property was so scarce downtown that the only way to expand was up. I can imagine that top floor with all new windows, and quite a panoramic view.

GRDad -- thanks so much for the great pictures of the Civic Auditorium lobby.  That is a wonderful Moderne space, probably the best in the city, and it is great that it was preserved when the rest of that old barn was imploded.

No prob, Dave. If you liked those, you'll really love the interior shots of Ryerson Library (coming soon) ;)

Check out the lobby shots of the Civic Auditorium if you missed those^^^

Let me get this one out the way. Work progressing on the Historic Monroe Avenue Filtration Plant (from the rear of the site). I hear this is 60% leased out to an insurance company and another tenant, and also features residential too.

^^^Two other posts today if you missed those^^^

If you have not been in the recently renovated Ryerson Library (Main Branch) of the GRPL, then hang on to your hats:

You can see in this picture below, through the doorway, how the section added in the 70's or 80's had different ceiling heights than the historic section (that I am standing in). This created some very challenging, yet visually appealing transitions between the two areas when they did the renovation.

The new Keeler Wing, which was gutted and a four story atrium was added.

Sorry for the quality on this last one, but with so many people coming and going and the desk workers, I was trying not to be noticed and moved my hand :( . However, it will give you a reason to go check it out personally. The marble/tile floors are exquisite:

GR Dad -- Wow!! I visited the Ryerson a couple of years ago, but your pictures make it look even more beautiful. I well remember the marble as a kid, but the restoration paint job has really brought out the beauty of the plaster detailing. It never looked that good in the old days.

The "new" library (the 1967 addition) was a big improvement in terms of opening up the stacks and putting the books into a friendlier environment. Unfortunately, the building was darn ugly and the interiors sterile. And, most imortantly, the Ryerson wing became an afterthought instead of the triumphant entrance to the library.
