It has been a week since the I-30 Crossing project has started. This project centers around the expansion of I-30 through downtown LR/NLR and the replacement of the I-30 bridge. The stated reason for the expansion is to speed up traffic for those living outside of LR by a few minutes each day. But the situation has changed and  the highway department has failed, as far as I know, to discuss  the so-called new normal on traffic. The construction is only half funded and the rest of the money is based on the extension of a sales tax in November. Also, no money has been allocated for any improvements to new underpasses or the proposed park on 2nd street as well as to rebuild the trolley line that passes under the interstate.

What was a parking lot in the River Market is now a staging area and the parking lot under the 2nd street on/off ramp will be closed this week.

That project is already a disaster. Screwed up the last of the free rivermarket parking and took away the sledding hill. It is a mess.

I-30 Crossing could end up being a disaster after last week's decision by the Arkansas Supreme Court. It ruled that ARDOT cannot use money from the 2012 sales tax, which was extended this week, for the project. So the question is how to pay for the $1.3 billion expansion.

Blame it on the legislature who inadvertently or ignorantly included language that was limiting in a way that it was never intended...that limiting language was stripped from Amendment 1 (which passed).  Regardless, it will get done one way or the other.

Any idea what will happen to the block at E 2nd Street and Sherman since the I-30 ramp was demolished? I'd love to have  a grocery store downtown, especially something like Aldi.

All the space created is supposed to be for park/public use.  Check the River Market thread for the design submissions.
