55 West

The idea of looking out and seeing other big buildings sounds appealing to me actually. It would give me a big city type feeling. I would have to see pictures though to be sure.

Agreed---- hence Urbanity, not views of sprawl or low-density development.

The west side I think is the best view of this monster. It will be the ever evolving side something new will be built out the windows for a long time to come. A totally new sky line if you will could emerge from this direction. My real question is what is this lighting package going to look like. Has anyone seen a nighttime rendering?

^The state of downtown Orlando seems a bit misrepresented in that op-ed piece. Sure, there are some downturns, but many many new businesses have opened up in downtown this year and last, and revitalization is moving forward all around. 55W has been a headache from start to (apparently) finish--hopefully it is not true that construction has halted.

He is right about the homeless problem.

Got to agree Prahaboheme. Mr Diaz's column makes it seem as if the economy has been in a recession for years. It looks like we are in for a downturn but we have not been in a recession until recently and even that remains to be seen. For Mr Diaz to imply that downtown Orlando is boarded and shuttered and reminiscent of Beirut is beyond the pale. This column will cause me to take everthing this putz writes with a grain of salt....

I got the impression that he meant the CSS area looked like Beirut. Considering that 55W blows dust in every direction down there and the I-4/408 work is on the other side, I tend to agree. If he means all of downtown, 2005 and 2006 had more construction going on downtown to make it look like a war zone than right now.

Church also looks like Beirut b/c they dug it up to do plumbing work. aside from that, there's 4 places open to the west of 55W (Cheyenne, Dessert Lady, Brick & Fire, Ceviche), and 3 eateries open to the south of 55w (Gino's, Panchero's, Amura), and the classic 5 or so places open to the east of 55W (Chillers, Lattitudes, Makos, Dragon Room, Kres, etc...)

call me crazy, but that's a dozen places open within a 1 1/2 block area notwithstanding the construction zone. throw in Ritazza as well at Orange.

He just wrote me to appologize for his oversight and promised to correct it.

Yeah, I was gonna say that I just went outside for a walk around Lake Eola and the crane was in motion.

And then?

I'm gonna call you Karl Malone cause just like The Mailman, you delivered.

55 West is looking good from this angle. I'm digging the color scheme too....I've always been a big fan of tan/orange for residential high-rises.
