In Union county's case I think they are already there. (in the "its too late department") Just this weenend we went to the beach and made the silly mistake of taking 74 through Union county to SC. Anything you want to know or see about bad unsustainable ugly development is on that road. I simply can't image why the local leaders don't see the disaster they have created and take some steps to stop it. But unfortunately the bulldozers continue to clear land for more strip malls.

I wish that years ago NC would of just converted 74 to an expressway all the way to Wilmington - it would make the drive to the coast much easier (and probably faster). Raleigh seems like it has better connections to the coast (I-40, plus it's a little closer).

If 74 was an interstate or expressway - which it should have always been - life would be easier.
