In Athens:

Road Trip on UGA Campus

Blue Collar TV at Athens' Classic Center

A season of Room Raiders

John Mayer's video for 'No Such Thing' was filmed at the Georgia Theatre, which is one of the oldest bars in town.

I'm sure there's more I can't think of at the moment.

A lot of movies are based in or filmed in Detroit, but not very many tv shows have been. They also film a good number of car commercials in the city.

"Home Improvement" was set in suburban Detroit

"Sister Sister" was set in Detroit - the house in the show is identical to an actual house somewhere in the city

"Animal Cops: Detroit"

"Paramedics" - an episode of the show was shot in Detroit 5 or 6 years ago

oh I get it TV . . . shows/films based in our city, I took it as TV shows, or films ;)

Also RoboCop did take PLACE in Detroit but some scenes were filmed in Pittsburgh as well (I believe those abandoned factory scenes were filmed here and you can see the Mellon Center in the background during one street scene).

Baltimore has Homicide: Life on the Streets and The Wire. Tremendous for the city's image... Also there was Roc.

DC--you forgot the X-Files, most were set in and around DC--including one episode set in Braddock Heights--the tiny little suburb in Frederick County where I grew up.

Listen Up was set in Philadephia, but it's based on the life of DC resident Tony Kornheiser.

and the PA scenes in Kingpin were actually Scranton, if I am remembering correctly.

Okay, you asked ;)

The Minneapolis/St. Paul area is an often-used location for films, both theatrical and made-for-TV. It's also a major production area for cable TV shows. A list of those follows at the bottom.

Prior to 1990, some of the bigger films made here were "Airport," "Ice Castles," "Slaughterhouse Five," and of course, "Purple Rain." The following were filmed in whole or in part in the Twin Cities since 1990:

Title - Production Company - Date

Justice, Jujitzu Films, 2003

Vernie, Vernie Pictures Ltd., 2002

The Last Word, Firelight Films, 2002

New World Symphony, Backdrop Productions, 2002

Detective Fiction Farnam St. Ltd., 2002

Vision of a Misfit, Guerrilla Squad Productions, 2002

There nor There, Pearl Productions, 2002

Joe Somebody, 20th Century Fox, 2001

Great Lakes, Friction Films, 2001

Paradise, Reel Cinema Entertainment, 2001

What about Mary Tyler Moore Show?

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Yeah, the setting was in Minneapolis, and the opening credits were filmed here, but the list above was strictly for shows actually shot in the Twin Cities. An interesting trivia note: When MTM Productions wanted to film more exterior footage of the house where her apartment was located, the owners of the actual house were so tired of tourists on their front lawn that they draped the house with banners proclaiming "Impeach Nixon." The MTM crew obviously couldn't use the house so they decided to "move" Mary into a new apartment in a high-rise across town. That's the real reason Mary moved.

To be honest, I don't know of too many TV shows or movies that have a fictional setting in the Twin Cities unless they are part of the plots of the films listed above. There were a couple of X-Files episodes (one of them was a black comedy starring Peter Boyle) but of course nearly all X-Files episodes were actually shot in Vancouver.

Seattle:

"Frasier" - based in Seattle and one episode was actually filmed in Seattle.

"Gery's Anatomy" - based in Seattle. Outside shots are filmed in Seattle, but most of the filming is done in LA.

"The Fugitive" (the short-lived remake) - not sure where it was based in, but some shots were filmed in Seattle as well as nearby Tacoma and Everett.

"The Real World: Seattle"
