the picture labeld "star island" is actually the venetian islands. the causeway connects miami beach to the mainland.

Gosh, this is one of the best photo tours of Miami that I have seen posted here. Miami has to be one of the best mid sized cities in North America. I used to live in Boca Raton and this brings back a few memories.

great pics sunshine....at least you were able to get some decent shots from your hotel room at the Marriot...in a few years you wont be able to see the downtown skyline anymore since the Miami Herald sold all the vacant lots between it and the Performing Arts center and is slated to be developed with many highrises.

Awesome pics! I love Miami.

Much like some people say they couldn't live in Minneapolis because of the winters, I don't think I could deal with the heat of South Florida in the summer. However, the two times I was in Miami was in December, so it was fun.

Nice shots, sunshine... That complex where you stayed is great. I once stayed in the condo building that blocked your view, The Grand, where the DoubleTree Grand Biscayne Bay is located. There are penthouse hotel units on the top floors that provide extraordinary views (although I didn't get to stay up there)...

That cluster of buildings you weren't sure about is Sunny Isles Beach, one of the least known Highrise cities in the US. It has 2 500-footers with about 10 more on the way.
