County Council passed the second reading of the proposed tax increase that will be lower than originally proposed tonight 8-4 with amendment:

The proposed 2024 and 2025 budget includes a millage rate increase for the first time in 30 years. The increase would move the millage rate from 48.8 to 59.8.

The amendment would lower the millage rate increase from 11 to 7 for the 2024 and 2025 budgets. Both budgets ended up passing second reading 8 to 4.

County Council failed to pass their budget on the second reading last night in a 6-6 vote. State law requires a budget must be passed by June 30th. If one isn’t passed by then, some serious issues will arise within the county. 
 

None of the earmarks requested by the City of Greenville were vetoed by the governor so they are fully approved now.
