As far as skyscrapers go, the original R.J. Reynolds building in Winston-Salem is a beautiful example of art deco architecture. Designed by Shreve and Lamb, it served as the model for the Empire State Building, a commission that the firm received while RJR building. You can see evidence of the early NYC zoning codes that led to the setback tower.

I think the one that will end up being my favourite in my city is OneTen Westminster:

It is supposed to break ground next month.

Here's some more of the building Recchia likes, the Citizens Bank HQ:

The Concourse Towers ten miles north of Atlanta on I-285 loop around Atlanta. They are only 585 feet tall each but they are some of my favorite buildings. They are also called the King and Queen Towers due to their resemblance to the so-named chess pieces.

Wow, nice pics. I love that building. Even though its tiny, I still love it. I don't know if it would look much better if it were taller.

Anybody got good original pics of 333 Wacker in Chicago? Or 225 West Wacker? Love those, as I said before.

Is the Phoenix Mutual Bldg in Hartford? Very cool, especially being only two sided. Almost a mini-333 Wacker.

That Guardian Bldg in Detroit is awesome too. Detroit has some really cool older skyscrapers.

Yep, world's first 2-sided building. Can be seen right next to I-91 driving north or south.

Ah, gotcha, I'm assuming that's where the Grizzlies play then?

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Ah...I stand corrected. I remember now it IS where the Grizzlies play. I forgot about them as they are kind of mediocre and forgetable team.

But anyway, yes it is a general purpose arena.

The Grizzlies have been to the playoffs 2 straight years and are becoming one of the teams to beat in the NBA but I digress.....

They don't play in the Pyramid anymore. They play in the brand new FedEx Forum.

I look at that building, and I can't help thinking it looks like a giant tazer.

Never thought about it like that, but now that you mentioned it, I can see it. The Bellsouth building in Nashville also reminds me of one. :)

I think in Shreveport it's a given which one is the best-looking. AmSouth Tower, being the tallest and most modern-looking tall building in Shreveport, is my choice. For those who may not know, it's the building on the left in this picture:

But I also like the Sam's Town Hotel tower, which is 23 stories and the Horseshoe Hotel tower, which is 26 stories. I think both of these are exceptional buildings on our riverfront skyline as well.
