City of Jacksonville Has Gained 42,000 Since 2000

The City of Jacksonville gained more than 42,000 people between 2000 and 2004 according to new Census Bureau figures released today.

We should pass Indianapolis any day now. Breaking into the Top 10 will probably take 20 years though.

Number 11 is do-able by the next census, but it will be close. Detroit would be down to about 850,000 if the trends continue. If you count the independent cities, Jacksonville is already about 812,000. Considering their residents are taxed and represented by Jax's mayor and council, it's not too much of a stretch to include them.

Wow, that's great news. From what I've seen, just about every city in Florida grows quickly. I mean, I haven't seen any declines like Detroit. I think it's our weather that lures people down here lol.

Out of Florida's largest cities, it looks like Hialeah may have dropped slightly in population.
