Wow...$2000 for a 3 bedroom apartment? It's gonna be interesting to see how they do.

Not really. Think in terms of college students. For perspective, it cost me the equivalent of $620/mo to stay on campus at USC. So, $700/mo is not bad rent. So $1400/mo for a 2-bedroom is not a bad deal if you have two people to split the rent. Is it pricey? Yes. But unreasonable? No.

As much as I hate to admit it, they're pricing for the changing demographic at USC.

Every new complex that has been built has been progressively more and more expensive (not to mention larger), but they always fill up (i.e., Sterling Oaks, Woodlands, Copper Beech) because the average income of students' parents continues to rise, and students demand to not sacrifice luxuries.

Even though im in a completely different market, Charleston, I pay $925 for a 1 bedroom.

I currently split up 800/month with 2 others for a house, and paid 850 last year for an apt with only one other...

College students typically don't have the money to make a downpayment on a house, much less the income to get approved for a mortgage...

Yeah, but their parents, who are generally footing the bills can. Its a much better investment.

My uncle did that years ago when my cousin went to school. Profit on selling the house more than paid for the education.

I know people who did that, but not everyone has that luxury. I would guess that far more people go to school with student loans than those who's parents can afford to buy a second house for their kids to live in.

Anyway, that Aspyre thing is a monstrosity. Seems waaaay to big like me, and I've heard people referring to it as 'that lumberyard on Assembly.' I have a feeling it may be another canalside in the asthetic department...

Thinking positively, I'll have to say I have come to like what has been built at Canalside more and more, and if the rendering of Aspyre just inside the front page of this week's Free Times is any indication, it will look very nice.

OK, I picked up the Free Times and looked at the rendering. It appears to me it is going to have even more khaki painted surfaces than canalside. Couple with its size, I just don't see it looking good.

I'll recant if it turns out looking good.

Well, just because I think something looks good doesn't necessarily mean it does. Conversely, just because someone else thinks something doesn't look good doesn't necessarily mean it doesn't.

I'm actually a bit disappointed with the Vinyl siding...it makes it look cheap. Of course, the faux-stucco on Adesso (which is already starting to crease in some places) doesn't look much better, so perhaps I had set my expectations a bit too high.

I hate the vinyl too, but I see those shots are from the inner courtyard. I know there's supposed to be at least a partial brick facade on the side facing Assembly.

Not much of one. Overall, I am fairly disappointed with the look of Aspyre.

Wow, that's just bad. Hopefully they will at least use SOME brick on the exterior facade.

If I'm not mistaken it's not vinyl but hardy plank. Never be disappointed by the use of hardy plank. I'll drive by and let y'all know. If it's not vinyl I'm very pleased with the look. My partner has just chimed in. It's not vinyl. It's hardy plank. Great stuff. It's a form of wood that's more durable than plank wood. It's almost as expensive as brick.

If it really is plank, then I can live with it- but hopefully they will paint it so it doesn't look like vinyl
