Delta adding summer flights to London, Munich

By RUSSELL GRANTHAM

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Delta Air Lines said it will add one flight each to London and Munich from Atlanta during the summer.

The Atlanta-based airline said the additional flight to London-Gatwick airport will run from June 1 to Sept. 30 six days a week, boosting the summer schedule to four departures on most days.

The flight to Munich, Delta's second Atlanta departure, will run May 6 through Oct. 10 five days a week.

Also, Business Traveler magazine named Delta's Crown Room Clubs "best airport lounges" based on an annual reader poll. Delta said it will raffle prizes to employees and give prizes to the 100th traveler at each of its 41 airport lounges on Tuesday to celebrate.

This is good news for Atlanta.

Delta is building a huge new terminal building at Boston Logan for something like $400M. I have read very little about their plans for the terminal. I think they are going to have their own international terminal in there, but I don't know about domestic flights or if it will result in more Delta flights from Boston or not.

I think it will lead to more Delta flights. Delta has wanted to make additional in roads in the NE for some time, and I think they are counting on Boston to help them do that. They recently started up International Flights out of Boston, and I think the new terminal will help them build on that as well.

I would not be surprised to see Boston become a mini-hub for Delta, assuming they can maintain financially, which although better than most of the large national carriers, is still not good.
