Pheonix is so spread out, they felt it did not need to always go vertical. Pheonix is a much bigger place than the Skyline would suggest.

Yea, looking at the skyline you wouldn't know it's a city of more than 1.4 million people. Though there is definately some skyscraper action going on there.

Downtown Phoenix is a bit weak height-wise. - But Midtown Phoenix is only a few miles down the Central corridor- and if you combined all of the skyscrapers (if we can call them that) in Midtown plus Downtown- we would look like any other big city...
