Upstate's Technical Colleges

In the 08 July 2005 issue of the Greenville Journal (Vol. 7 #28), there's a decent article on the three major technical schools in the Upstate (Greenville Tech, Tri-County Tech, and Spartanburg Tech) and their enrollment and growth.

One thing that comes to mind is expansion. All three colleges have plans for new campuses in the Upstate.

Tri-County Tech is currently building a new campus in Anderson. (Does anyone know where that can be?) It is already planning an Easley/Powdersville campus. Rumors have them building a new campus at the former Saco Lowell site. Plans are also in the works for a fourth campus serving the Seneca-Wahalla area.

Greenville Tech is currently building the Lathem (Northwest) Campus on US 25 at its intersection with SC 183. Construction on the first building begins next month, and classes should begin in late 2007. The Lathem Campus will house the Food Services program. It seems a fifth campus, the "downtown campus", is getting underway. Loacted in the Bank of America tower, the downtown campus offers culinary arts and business programs.

Spartanburg Tech recently bought land for its Gaffney Campus in conjuction with Freightliner's continued growth there. The main campus will have a new library (opening in 2007); the current library will become home to the continuing education program.
