Michigan Forum Meet in Detroit

I'll be touring Cincinnati on Saturday, August 13th and won't get in to Detroit to later that night. I've also got a wedding to attend in Detroit on Saturday, August 20th, before hitting the road to return to Florida. So anytime, between Sunday, Aug. 14th & Friday, August 19th, are ideal for me.

What time should we meet? Morning, afternoon, evening? I was thinking we should all meet in Greektown, like near the Casino or something, since there are restrooms, food, beverages nearby if anyone needs them while they are waiting.

Also remember that I can pick anyone up that needs a ride. I can cover Lansing since there are a few forumers from there, as well as people along the I-94 corridor - A2, Canton, etc.

Just wanted to let everyone know, I had a good time meeting up with Allen and Wolverine, for a couple of hours this past Sunday, to check out downtown Detroit. The city has come a long way, since the last time I was here a year ago. I must say, I'm most impressed with the amount of road repaving going on. The scene along Woodward is also improving rapidly. I'll post some of my pics, when I return to Florida, early next week.

It was just Wolverine, Lakelander, and I. I wish we'd had a better turnout, but it was still fun.

We pretty much did a loop around downtown, starting in Greektown, heading over to Woodward to see the lofts and other improvements, heading over to Washington Blvd., and then onto Campus Martius and Hart Plaza before ending with a lunch at Pizza Papalis in Greektown.

Unfortunately it was cloudy, despite the fact that it was sunny the entire week before that. There weren't many people downtown in the morning, although the pedestrian situation improved as the day went on.

I often spend my Saturday afternoons playing Petanque in Campus Martius with a couple lurkers on this forum. I suppose that classifies as a forum meet. Everyone is invited to join in...lurkers included.

Btw, just because I play, that doesn't mean I'm any good.

Still, we should schedule something again. Hopefully, more people will be able to join in.

Ah, petanque...I remember playing that in my French classes.

You know, if I can ever get up to Detroit for a vacation, maybe I could find time for one of these meets if one is going on while I'm there.

For the longest time I thought everyone was playing bocce ball, lol. Petanque is a lot like bocce though. I'd never even heard of it before. I suppose that's what I get for taking Spanish in high school (not that I rember any of it).

:) Well now that you're playing regularly, Allan, we'll expect you to brush up on your French when you play at the Renaissance Center - Riverfront Park on Fridays, and at Campus Martius on Saturdays. By the way, you missed the Mayor. Kwame came over to learn/play petanque - check the FLICKR site for the photos.

Jeff.
