I'm not saying it doesn't happen, my point was just that, all else equal, a AAA baseball team would prefer to be the main attraction in town, not an afterthought.

The Washington/Baltimore area is making a play for The Olympics in 2020, I believe. This massive facility might include Richmond in the undertaking.

From today's RTD:

Olympic facility appears to be on track for approval in Chesterfield.

Olympic facility leaps over first hurdle. The Chesterfield Planning Commission votes unanimously to approve the project which is to planned for a 50-acre tract near the junction of Rt. 288 and Powhite Pkwy

From today's R-TD:

Question? Won't this facility duplicate the aquatic center proposed for Ironbridge Road and Chippenham Pkwy?

I don't think there is room on Ironbridge at Chippenham for such a facility.

Unless I have misread fairly recent news reports, that's where Richmond Sports Backers plans to build a natatorium and related sports facilities that were originally proposed for The Boulevard/Diamond area.

It looks like (from a map in the paper version of the article) that the project would be built in 3 phases. Phase I includes the ballpark and immediate surrounding buildings. Future phases include buildings north of Broad and west of Main St Station.

I read an article that said the same thing.

For the want of twenty five grand Richmond may lose this year's XTERRA games.

From today's R-TD:

http://www.timesdispatch.com/rtd/news/loca...-222928/186388/

That is ridiculous. Considering the number of people that attend the scramble every year (1200), the benefit to local business and the cities reputation, its amazing that they can't come up with twenty five grand.

It seems like they could aim for a combination of increasing scramble fees (maybe voluntary contribution), city contribution and local merchants to hit that amount. Looks like the minimal amount of time to raise that money is going to cause issues though.

I do the scramble every year, it will be a shame to see the xterra (and the excitement associated with it) diminish the fun of the scramble and have a great event disappear from Richmond.

Heres a Q&A with Mr.Botic and RichmondBizsense.com. Take a look for yourself.

http://www.richmondbizsense.com/big-biz/665-rally-caps-.html

I like Mr. Bostic's optimism. It is direct and straight forward.

Former Mayor Wilder really missed a great opportunity during his tenure. I hope Mayor Jones takes the right initiative and has the City give all the support it can in a suitable manner.

P.S. I would like to see Mr. Glass "eat" his words. He clearly has not done his homework.
