Why do artists get credit for revitalizing downtown. Yes, they are young, but they are also all terribly poor. They contribute little to the economy. Normal suburban types are the ones that really bring downtowns back, because they have the money.

Artists get credit because they move into crappy neighborhoods because they are cheap. Artists are generally a creative type of people that often times put effort into making their crappy neighborhood not so crappy. People from the suburbs don

grdad you are right about nimbys (and bananas).  I think there are fewer of them in the city than there are in the burbs, but they are there nonetheless and it can makes things difficult

Being homeless can drive someone to mental illness as well.

If you want to help people, don't go in with an attitude, and a sense of hopelessness. Go in with a genuine desire to help. Having the attitude of "its their fault" is only going to hurt.
