Whoops. Thanks. Looks like the problem with Fulton got cleared up and now looks in the best position to reach 1 million first. Pinellas County is growing less than I figured they would be. Maybe another error in the Census Estimates? Travis County (Austin) doesn't surprise, but Hidalgo County (McAllen) is growing rapidly under the radar. That county could reach 1 million before the likes of Shelby (Memphis), Duval (Jacksonville), and Baltimore and has the 3rd highest % growth behind Gwinnett and Wake. Wow!

I think you're right about Pinellas being another census error. I seriously doubt its growing that slowly.

Fulton County will probably be the first.

Fulton County - 2010

Mecklenburg County - 2016

Wake County - 2016

Duval County - 2025

Shelby County - 2047

DeKalb County - in a long time

Jefferson County - in a long time

Davidson County - perhaps never

East Baton Rouge Parish - perhaps never

Orleans Parish - perhaps never

My guesses:

Gwinett GA

Fulton GA

Mecklenburg NC

Wake NC

Duval FL

Dekalb GA

Shelby TN

Cobb GA

Jefferson AL

Davidson TN

toss-up after that for

Greenville SC, Guilford NC or Charleston SC, all of which are a ways off, but not unreacheable

Orange and Pinellas will be first. Followed by Mecklenburg, Wake or Duval.
Pinellas? It's big, but it is barely growing. It's only adding about 1,250 to its population per year. At that rate, it'll be decades before it reaches 1,000,000.

Fulton County, on the other hand, is currently about the size of Pinellas County and it's adding about 19,000 to its population per year. Fulton County will be the first to hit 1,000,000, easily.

And, yea, Orange County already hit 1,000,000.

                                                                                                        2000

July 1, 2005 July 1, 2004 July 1, 2003 July 1, 2002 July 1, 2001 July 1, 2000 Census

Orange County 1,023,023 989,873 963,638 944,525 925,988 902,297 896,344

Pinellas County 928,032 927,498 925,566 924,448 923,570 922,257 921,482

Fulton County 915,623 905,802 887,454 864,516 846,388 816,647 816,006

You know its too hard to estimate the population patterns like these, you never know until it happens. As for my opinion though, I believe charlotte won't end up like many expect it to. It doesn't seem to have the infrastructure of a big city, (although it is trying to). Theres just an inkling feeling (not to insult anyone) that none of the things many hope for will happen.

This quote intrigues me. Please elaborate

I don't know why people think Pinellas will be reaching 1 million anytime soon. The county is built out and is essentially no longer growing. Duval will reach 1 million before Pinellas. Phizzy's data is right on. Orange is now past 1 million and still growing fast.

Yikes, another 300 years before davidson county reaches one million! :) lol

Well, maybe only 200 years if we build a bunch of Signature Towers...

I'm pretty sure that Davidson has the smallest land area of any of the other counties. With the hills I would say that it has about half of the useable land that any of the other counties have.

Rutherford county has a better chance to break 1,000,000.
