Summer '03 Seattle: Looking up from Freeway Park

Cut and cover and voila!

Freeway Park is on a lid built over I-5.

You can almost forget just where you're at while walking through

here or sitting/laying around for awhile. Abbreviated tour ends

at another (westerly) exit from Park. A photo tour from that

point on will be another thread some other time. Enjoy! :)

I've seen this elsewhere and loved it. There was a plan a while back to put a lid on Route 95 here in Providence where it splits Federal Hill and the West Side off from Downcity. Much of the lid would be parkland, and the service roads were to be pulled inward to make room for development along the edges. But alas, the economy took a header and that plan went away. :(

Is Freeway Park next to a freeway (maybe I-5)? It's good to see such greenery surround the development of highways but on the other hand it leads to much protest if the highway needs to expand itself; even though it's 10X better than destroying residential areas. But still the "environmental" lingo kicks in for most people.
