I went to SD once, when I was 7 years old, and stayed in Lemon Grove with my aunt. This was way back in 1982, but I remember that we used to go to two different beaches; Redondo and Imperial I think they were called. Redondo was smaller of the two, kinda twisty and with an island or peninsula out in front. Imperial was bigger, straighter and there was nothing obstructing the view to the Pacific.

Anyway, I was but a wee lad and maybe my memory isn't quite correct. Could any of the above pictures be from those two beaches?

^^^I think the beach you are referring to is Coronado, not Redondo (Redondo is in LA). I don't have any pics of Imperial, but here are some of Coronado that might bring back some memories for you. It's my favorite beach, so I've got many of pics of it -

Those pictures sure do ring a bell. I remember I got sunburnt pretty badly. I was red like a lobster
