Work started around town

I was down on 31st ave. yesterday and noticed they have torn down one or two houses to make way for the Midtown Lofts. Erosion barriers up around the entire site and bulldozers on the move. West End apts all the way down to make room for the tower there. Over at the site of the Aldecia, I noticed the Tennessee Realtors Building is now empty and almost ready for demolition. On 18th ave, all of the Vandy dorms have been torn down to make room for new Freshman dorms. Downtown on 4th ave., it looks as if the have cleared the lot to make room for the new Hampton Inn and Suites. Thats all I know about at present besides the projects we know have broken gorund.

The Maberta Apts go next the the two houses. I actually went inside one of the houses last week before they fell. I knew I should have grabbed the ping pong table left behind by the students. Go up Long Blvd when you get a chance. Talk about demolition. Man, that side of town looks like bombs have been dropped. Nothing too special is going down, but it sure appears things that are special are going up. Ack, ack, the dust!

I meant to say South Street, but it came out State...sorry, I was referring to the Adelecia. Foggy brain syndrome.

It seems that with the Urban Zoning Overlay in West End Park, and this is not unique to Nashville, homeowners put their properties up for sale in "bulk" to attract developers. They agree that if they can get handsome returns on their property, they'll just sell and move. Watch for condos...all over the place.

Also, I drove down Church St. yesterday and the crews were removing the sidewalk and trees in front of the Main Library to continue work on that side of the street. The street is looking sweet.

Has anyone else noticed that the work on the Viridian has taken on a whole new style. The residential floors have started and these are the ones that will go up fast. I'm told in good circumstances a floor per week.

Here's a recent shot of Church Street (couple o' weeks ago)

Great Pics. Just wanted to know about the Hill Lifestyle center and what has happened there???. No work going on and its been that way for a while. Also noticed the office park going in on the road that runs paralel to Crestmoor after you round the curve coming from 21st. I cant remember the name there but I do remeber 2 and 3 story buildings and thery were starting to put steel up there.

I don't know what Hill is waiting on. Maybe since they contracted with Whole Foods to anchor one of the big spots, they're finalizing design. Wish they'd hurry up.

Also, behind Crestmoor is Beford Avenue (or was till it disappeared off the planet). Called Bedford Commons. It's a big one.

Hello,

I'm a brand new member here. With any luck, I won't screw up this attempt to post a message too badly and you all might get to actually read it.

For a few weeks I have lurked quietly in the shadows; an urban junky with a voyeuristic bent. But, I finally mustered the gumption to actually join this site. I've really enjoyed reading the discourse and learning more about the Nashville area in the process.

Let's see... There are all these smily things to choose from so I might as well pick one that best represents me... Hmmm

Yeah, this little guy best reflects my state of constant confusion.

Looks like you did everything just right. I might have to borrow your icon from time to time as I tend to get a bit bent and confused from time to time.

Welcome to the group droopy, glad you jumped in. With more and more people lately, this stays interesting. Thanks for coming on board. If we can help you with anything, just let us know...someone's always got an answer or a way to find it.

Thanks, Dave. I appreciate the welcome.

With any luck, I have succesfully negotiated the quote function and this post makes sense.

I do have questions. I must say that I am duly impressed by the knowledge of the group members and have no doubt that my queries will be answered. I have lived in the Nashville area for over eight years now and have really grown to love it. It's a great city and, without a doubt, has a very bright future.

Gee, sat, I've got shoes older than you. :) I've got to say, it's really nice seeing all the new people around. We need some more general Tennessee stuff too. I don't get out of town too much, but really want to get down to Chattanooga and see the new phase of the Aquarium and look at the new riverfront. It'll just make me jealous that they've done so much with their river and we've kind of let ours sit for so long. Hopefully, that will change.
