What does your city name mean? If it doesn't have a meaning where does it come from? Maybe this will become interesting......

Willacoochee is thought to mean: Home of the Wildcat

Stephen Douglas, the famous Civil War (and Late antebellum) orator and congressman.

Lizella: local rumors suggest that Lizella was named after the two daughters, Liz and Ella, of the man that started the town.

Does anyone know why "Atlanta" was actually chosen for the name? I know it used to be called Terminus, and later Marthasville.

Atlanta was chosen so that the city would have a more official sounding name than Marthasville.

The name Atlanta was created either from the middle name of Martha Wilson (Atalanta, after the Greek racer) or as a feminine version of Atlantic, from the Western Atlantic Railroad, or the ocean itself.
