The Round Rock Premium Outlets will be located in Round Rock at the intersection of I-35 and Chandler Rd. Groundbreaking is scheduled to take place on July 28 on the $100M, 430,000 sf center. It will be an outdoor village-style center with more than 100 stores, but tenants will not be announced until early next year. The Round Rock Premium Outlets is scheduled to open in Fall 2006.

This is what was said about other possible spinoff developments aroud the outlet center from the Austin American-Statsman article Work to begin July 28 on mall.

No timeline has been given for several other projects proposed for the intersection, including Swedish furniture retailer IKEA, a supersize H-E-B grocery store and a Scott & White hospital. East of the outlet mall, a Texas State University campus is scheduled to open in August.

Why in the hell are they building outlets this close to Austin when they have one just down the road in San Marcos?

These outlet stores will be in direct competition with the ones in San Marcos. Not only that but they will have stores that the one in San Marcos does not have. Its perfect location in Round Rock will bring in shoppers from as far north as the southern stretches of the DFW area, most of east Texas. And back across through west and northwest Texas. Also will get some shoppers as far away as Mexico and from the surrounding states.
