Only a freeway-style interchange would solve the traffic problems at Albemarle Road and W.T. Harris Boulevard, where 80,000 cars a day squeeze past each other.

But an interchange is controversial with nearby property owners, and the city doesn't have the money to build one. So Charlotte will try what it says is the next best thing: a new road to siphon off a few thousands cars.

In 2007, the city plans to extend Lawyers Road north so it connects to W.T. Harris. Lawyers' extension would work as a bypass for the busy Harris/Albemarle intersection.

It boggles my mind that many cars travel through there these days.  It wasn't that long ago that is was a remote intersection then called Delta Rd.

With a G.A. airport....I remember those days....
