The State will render its decision on Spectrum's bid to perform heart transplants on March 2nd, if not sooner:

I read the same story in a few other news outlets, and for some reason WZZM seemed to take a more positive tone.

I hadn't realized until I read this that insurance companies usually don't cover transplant surgeries performed at a "new" site, so for the first few years Spectrum intends to pay for them entirely by themselves - they could lost as much as $200,000-$300,000 at the beginning, and those patients will get their surgeries for free. Pretty ballsy!

The frame looks pretty close to finished, they were welding the last triangle this morning. the smaller half seems to have been constructed in a week.

Or, it could just be that their building is only 4 blocks from here and someone noticed a giant structure in the middle of the road on Bostwick on their way to work.

It's the driveway for the Seccia Center circle drive at the entrance and for the parking ramp under the 25 Michigan Building.

It's official, Spectrum has been approved to perform heart transplants. West MI Patients that would have had to relocate to Ann Arbor or Cleveland for months can now stay in town. MLive has more information on Spectrum's next moves here.

I wasn't able to get a pic, but it looks like the first section of the HDCH spire / needle sculpture is on site. Anyone know when it's going to be installed?

I think that was scrapped from the design.

There is a nice section of what I assume is the pedestrian bridge sitting there in an alley, and they were building what appeared to be supports for it when I drove by during lunch today.

I'm wrong. This pic on their web site shows a non-traditional skywalk. Must be part of that.

No Spire!? that makes me sad, that was the thing I was most excited about on that building!

Drove down Michigan St. this morning on my way to work and got my first views of the new pedestrian bridge. I am going to reserve final judgement on the whole project until it is completed but the two words that came to mind were TRAIN WRECK! This most likely won't be a popular opinion on this site but I think they missed a golden opportunity to add a signature building to our skyline. It's a shame that the VanAndel Institute and its comparatively quiet elegance is going to have to share space with the HDVCH. If they were shooting for a building that screamed CASINO, they nailed it. (So much for reserving judgement, hey?)

As your coming along on michigan street from the east going west, it looks as though the sky-walk is blocking the road due to the sky-walk being further down the hill. I'll see if i can get a shot of it tomorrow.
