"...In New England, most airports have been recovering faster than Logan, the airport from which two planes were hijacked and flown into the World Trade Center's Twin Towers in New York.

Even in Portland, where Mohamed Atta and another hijacker originally boarded flights, the airport is recovering faster on a percentage basis. Its April numbers were down by only 3 percent.

"In a way, that's a little bit shocking that our numbers are improving" because business travel continues to be way down, said Jeff Schultes, airport manager in Portland.

In New Hampshire, Manchester not only bounced back, it is growing.

Smaller airports like Manchester and the Portland International Jetport in Maine seem to hold more appeal after Sept. 11 and are regaining passengers and service faster than larger airports like Boston's Logan, officials said.
