This may have already been posted, but the county is going to add another juvenile facility directly beside it. This will take up the blank wall if I understand this project correctly.

^^^That big blank wall that you see on the new jail when heading into downtown on I-385 could be an IMAX. Just get a movie projector and shine it up on that wall and you have your very own IMAX theater.

If the wall is the final design, then I would expect to see some kind of mural or other decorative feature. What ever happened to those painted ads? Would also be a great place for a billboard, and given our state's love of them, it could happen.

I was thinking about a Coca~Cola ad or something like that. But in an old-school style to emphasize the fact that you are entering a historic core.

Finally a little good news on this front.

As construction is winding down on this pretty ugly building as it stands, there is some good news for a change. They have decided to paint the exterior portion of the builiding and not leave it as is. Originally, it was to remain with the concrete only look as you see it now; however, after numerous complaints about the exterior they have decided to do some painting. Not sure of the color or the scheme. I just know certain portions will be painted and certain portions will remain with the basic concret look. However, i am told that it will look really good when completed.

On another front, the Juvenile Building (Building #5 on the campus) is scheduled to begin a design phase and constructuion by the end of the year.

Glad the wall is being painted, but I was looking forward to a summer of movies, lawn chairs and Jujyfruits!

They'd have to cut down the large trees in front of the building though, which actually are very helpful in "softening" its ugliness.

The City was hoping to get something done with that wall recently. Among the favorable options was painting a mural on it. I am not sure whether that idea is still being considered though.

Trust me, it is being painted. Some sqaures will be left concrete, others will be painted.

dude, where are you getting this information? I have spoken with multiple county officials about this building and they dont have a clue about it being painted in any way. Im not saying that its not true, but none of my sources can confirm this. All I keep hearing about is how they are trying to find the money to build the juvenile section. Heres hoping the building is painted and made to look half way decent.

FYI, the Jail addition will be painted tomorrow starting at 9am. It will be a three dimensional design, kind of like looking through a tunnel. Not great looking but not to bad either. I guess it is better than just plain concrete.
