The reason for all the different population numbers is the 26k is the census records in 2000 which are the only official numbers. But there is an estimate for 2004 which is 28k. The 30k is most likely a rounded number (but I'll take 30k over 26k any day ).

well, hey, by the time the next census is out (2010) your 30K figure will probably be too SMALL
