I've always dreamt of making a tailgating bus out of an old school short bus.

I was thinking more along the lines of an old ice cream truck ala the Sweet Tooth character from the Sony game Twisted Metal.  But, that might be a little too creepy now that I think about it.

Downtown rents come in third behind average rent for UCF and Baldwin Park, suggesting that added capacity is not yet dampening profitability of developers trying to slake the demand of those who want to live in the core.

The article points out the statistic does not note how many occupants per apartment, so what income levels may be (a key metric to attract retailers) is still open to question.

Martin Lockheed R&D Building II:

Not sure if we post to this thread anymore, but Martin Lockheed is building a new R&D building at the main campus; $50M 255k sqft fronting SLR.  It's at least 5-7 stories.  They plan to hire 500 workers; average salary, $87k.

I didn't post this under the Attractions thread b/c although it's adjacent to the...Eye, it's not an attraction.

This article by the Post is good; give national exposure to Orlando:

The original idea was to eventually close the Sand Lake facility because the land was potentially so valuable for other (tourism) uses.

As they opened other facilities in East Orange and Ocala, that plan proceeded apace.

My guess is that the brownfield issues (some of the property is a bit of a toxic mess) probably slowed selling anything way down. Also, when the Lockheed merger came along, that just threw more bureaucracy in the mix. Finally, since it's a tech business, having facilities so close to the theme parks and a straight shot to the beach probably doesn't hurt recruiting college kids.

For those who believe we're just a one-trick pony,  the most recent Metro Orlando unemployment numbers offer some surprises.

We of course lead the state for the 38th consecutive month in job growth, but here's the twist: job growth in construction, manufacturing and finance all beat out tourism growth.

Orange, Seminole jobless rates dip to 2.9 percent
