I like how when I made a commuter rail related joke, a moderator deleted all semi-off-topic posts in the thread and suspended me for a week but there's no moderation when it comes to gay porn. Hmm..

PS: If you don't see me post for a while after this, it's probably because I got suspended (or banned) again.

Seriously. I said it last time, I'll say it again. This forum is quite sufficiently self-regulated. We have worthwhile discussions, with a dash of levity here and again, and we're all pretty content. Until the regularly contributing members who really make up this community are complaining to the mods, I don't see why they interfere....

3 sports venues proposed near I-Drive

Mark Schlueb and David Damron {sodEmoji.|} Sentinel Staff Writers

June 29, 2007

Orange County leaders who will be asked to approve a $1.1 billion plan for arts and sports venues next month now have another option to consider -- one that includes not only a new basketball arena but a retractable-dome baseball stadium and a grand-prix racetrack.

It's a pretty misleading title though. The plans are rough, and if you read the article it seems nobody in power is on board with making a serious consideration for moving the venues to i-drive. He feels the venues would merely complement the convention center... which is exactly what we DONT want. We want the venues to be for the city, us locals. I'm very certain any plans to put the venues on i-drive will get shot down. It's just too late in the game.

I love how this guy Watson is playing the innocent card by saying he did not mean to throw a grenade into the 3 downtown proposals. Sorry buddy, tha is exactly what you were trying to do!

Exactly ... and I wouldn't be surprised if a county commish put him up to it to provide an excuse.

they can still do the domed baseball park there though and the grand prix race track. he has spoken with Champ Car Series; you can tell. maybe he's spoken with the Marlins? not sure what the update is on their situation.

Sounds good they can built it for the Marlins. The Marlins are offereing to pay 275 million. The rest of the money, then Mr Watson can pay for it. The race track go for it. I think baseball and grand prix racing will do well in this area because of the large amount of tourist and convention center attendies.

The Magic arena and Performing art center can stay in downtown.

That and the fact that the unions in town try to strongarm their way onto every production that comes to town and they piss off a lot of producers from out of town to (1) never come back and (2) to bad mouth Orlando back in LA.

Seems your comment was a perfect prelude to this weeks OBJ, which features a front page article detailing a labor dispute which caused HBO Films to move production of its film Recount 2000 out of Orlando, possibly to Jacksonville or Atlanta.

^^ Not sure. The article doesn't mention where specifically. It just mentions that the movie was to be produced in ORL, but because of a bitter dispute between the production co. and the local Teamsters, it will no longer be produced here. The article mentions it may move to JAX or to Atlanta, or even possibly somewhere in Louisianna. I'd post a link to the article, but it is not available unless you have a subscription to the print edition.

What caused that to happen?
