Baton Rouge City Profile

That was pretty neat, Nate. I always thought this thread shoud be up here.

Also a few words about this building. What I would like to see is for them to clear a whole city block(maybe the space next to the Hilton) and them put it parallel with the river so no part juts out over the road , and then put some sort of plaza or garden underneath it.

Here are some renderings I've made of what I think would look cool on the Advocate site. I kind of wanted it to look like a Florida resort, but I don't think it came out. Hope ya'll like it.

The complex would be composed of two midrise towers and a multilevel shopping centers.

a1fg8.png48939967qk7.png

One tower would be residential, 14 stories,140 feet to the roof , with a mix of apartments and condomniums.

a2cg5.png

The other tower would be office, 9 stories, 90 feet to the roof, with a small boutique hotel at the top.

The shopping center would make up the first 5 levels of each building composed mostly of small clothing/homeware stores and eateries. It would have lush tropical foliage with a waterfall as the center piece.

Hey Dan, almost sounds like you got insider info??? That's good stuff. Maybe you can submit this to somebody? I like the placement of both buildings with a plaza/waterfall between them. I like your creativity, you have some great ideas. The waterfall and lush foliage are classy and would add to the feel of the subtropics; maybe add in a few Palm treez.

Usually office buildings are taller than 10 feet per floor. I have seen somewhere? an average height per floor is like 11 1/2' ft . It all depends. Plus the first floor lobby could be 15 feet? So the the roof-top could be like 107 feet + your spire like feature could make it 120'ft+??

ex-One American Place is 24-stories, 310'ft.

I like the concept Dan. I don't know if BR can support 5 levels of retail, but I like the mix of residential, office, retail and hotel.

Actually,I calculated this to have only about 80,000, or half a WalMart.

That's a good idea Richy. Who do you think I should submit this to?

After looking at my creations I came to the conclusion that they looked like crap. So I completely reworked them to a style more of what I wanted. Hope ya'll like it.

Gotcha on the retail.

I really like the new design.

I'm glad that they are expanding the Mall of LA, but here are a few things I would add.

First would make it a little bigger by adding a left and right wing of retail stores(pink) and put garages in the middle of them(yellow). Then I would put a hotel on top of one of the garages(green(but then again does B.R. really need anymore hotels?)). And to get really ambitious I would add a bus or tram line (red line) that made stops (light green) at various spots including Bluebonnet Park(blue) which I would close on the bottom (ligh blue). The line would also running to Perkins Rowe.

So what do ya'll think. :D

I like your vision Dan, you are ahead of your time  You have some really good ideas.

I can't wait til they complete the Picardy/Perkins connector!

Did you see them clearing land near the Rave Theatre? That's going to be filled up one day too; including phase II of Willow Grove.

I am sure you have heard about the 4th of July celebration shooting downtown?

That really pisses me off. I hope that when the perps are found, they put up a fight so the police can put them in the emergency room like those innocent bystanders.

I am really steamed about this. Baton Rouge is on it's way to being New Orleans...they'd better put in those cameras ASAP. Those street cameras are why those London bombers are in jail...they'd work well in Baton Rouge. Downtown is a relatively safe area that was doing so well in attracting new people. This really puts a crimp in that.

I agree that putting those shot spotter cameras downtown should be a top priority. Further, police should be instructed that an activation of the system requires an absolutely immediate (less than one minute) response time.

Any escalation of crime downtown could really hurt downtowns revitalization chances. This must be nipped in the bud before it gets started.

Thanks for doing that Dan :w00t: That's a fantastic skill you have there! That's how dramatic a change downtown BR skyline could have easily had/will have. This skyline would be much more fitting and respectable! A dense-elongated urban core. With three (Marriott, Jacobs, Shaw)past + four future!! Just fil-in the gaps + the State Capitol is off the screen(left)

The new II City Plaza and new Courthouse will add to the density on the souhern-end(right) of the CBD! Just think if Trahan's whacky building ever comes about???

I realize BR is not the only city that have high-rises outside the downtown urban core. Places like Houston, Dallas, Atlanta, Memphis and Mobile come to mind. It's cool to have taller buildings in other parts of the city.

If I knew to work photoshop I would have at least made an attempt, maybe Dan can offer some classes  I have added buildings before(opposite shadowed effect); but my own way not nearly the same as above; and from my favorite angle/view on top of the Mississippi River Bridge! :camera:

Top Ten Things to Do in Baton Rouge....and much more Local Favorites

http://www.batonrougeci.com/html/hotel-nea...university.html

That's a good list but there's one glaring omission. The new Louisiana State Museum across from the capitol. The museum's been open a year and a half but it doesn't seem that many people know about it yet.

I know the other museums are nice but the new state museum has more appeal and attractions than any other existing museum in BR. I am always dissapointed when I pass by and see very few people entering or exiting. Maybe more advertising? I don't know how much a state facility can afford to advertise, but I really think it's being underutilized.

I have been to it three times and I still haven't seen everything there. I tell everyone I know about it and have had people go and say how great it is. It's unlike anything else in BR and really could be more of a "destination" attraction.

I was thinking the same thing Drew. I first learned about it from a rendering and thought it was still an idea, but it turned out it was actually already open. It is an incredible museum and I was very impressed. Maybe they should advertise with there brochures, put them in hotels and other downtown attractions.

It is a good list, but it seems to be out of date. They have the the old names for the casinos listed and they are making reference to a Blues Fest Week that took place 2 years ago.

Also is the African Safari Park still open north of Zachary?
