How would the Jeweler building work for DT in the CBD? The little thing was probably the same size as my childhood bedroom.

First Citizens said they would put a park on the site. I thought the little building's facade could have fronted a snack shop, gift shop, or the like. I believe they were short-sighted in razing it.

For those of you that might not have heard, the Argyle project ... that private club planned for Main Street... went belly up. The building is now up for sale. Wish I had deep pockets...

Wow. Well at least exterior renovations were done, and it looks a whole lot better than it used to.

Per Mayor Bob, the 2nd phase of the streetscaping is ready to go, but the merchants have asked that it start in January so as not to be in constrtuction during the holiday season.

I was looking through the most recent copy of "Spurs & Feathers" (the Gamecock Club Mag.) and saw an advertisement for rooms selling at the former Governor's House. It took me a second to figure out that they were talking about the hotel, and forgive me if this has already been discussed, but does anyone have any details on this? $75,000 was the listing price.

Yes, the Governor's House has been turned into a condotel - at least until I win the lottery, anyway.

And here's the story in The State. Daniel Rickenmann and Rusell Cann wanted to sell 300 equity shares at $10,000 a share for the Argyle Social Club, but only about 85 people subscribed. Hopefully someone will buy the building soon and put something there that will really generate pedestrian activity.

So how's the Keenan Fountain installation in Boyd Plaza coming along?

The State reports that the Rodeway Inn at Lady and Main is becoming a condo-hotel complex. It appears as though the rooms will be sold on an individual basis, and it's up to the owners to decide what they want to do with their units. Sounds like a different kind of concept to me; to me, it would be preferable to see the whole building demolished and a sleek, glassy 8-story Embassy Suites built in its place, kinda like a smaller version of this W Hotel coming to downtown Atlanta:

I'm not either, but stranger things have happened. Isn't that new building at the end of Huger supposed to be a condo-tel?

It's getting very close. They've painted the bottom and sides of the pool part and yesterday when I rode by, the pump underneath had the water rippling all about.

I haven't taken any recent pics from my office of the fountain because nothing interesting has happened. It's just a small, square, conrete pool painted light blue on the inside right now. If y'all really wanna see that, I'll bring my camera to work tomorrow.

I don't remeber the name, but I believe it is to go at the very end of Huger, on the left, before it turns into Elmwood. Ring any bells?

^It doesn't. I know that a new extended stay hotel is slated to be built close to the Huger/I-126 junction. That would be the closest thing that qualifies that I'm aware of.

That's it. I believe its going at the Northwest corner of the Huger/Richland intersection. Leastways, that's the way it sounded in the State

Wow - Palmetto Center looks like it may be a mix use gem! These are some big hitters looking at the building and they talk retail, office and condos. This would be huge for Main Street. Article here

It's good that this is happening sooner rather than later, as it will soften the blow somewhat of SCANA's departure from downtown. I think mixed-use is the way to go here.

I wonder what Wachovia plans to do?

I they can get enough retail on the ground level on Main Street in general, things will really start to gel, and hopefully some life will return to Main St.

Rumor has it they are go to renovate and move into 1441 Main St. That is across Main Street from SCANA

I did hear about 1441 Main, but I just thought that there were other potential plans floating around.
