This is not an easy choice judging by these pics...both cities are very close when it comes to skylines.

I give Memphis the edge; their skyline looks a little more balanced. The bottom pic really helps the cause.

The new 633'ft One First National Center is impressive has a sleek looking design; easily wins the individual skyscraper award. For so long the Woodman Tower dominated the skyline. Those two alone are not enough.

Alot of times the # of 200'ft. buildings helps win the skyline battles . So they may have to go to the scorecard on this one.

I had always hated the skyline image Emporis created and used for its "New Orleans" page, as it really didn't reflect the skyline at all. It combined what the skyline looked like from across the Mississippi River, and from the opposite side in Mid-City. However, upon my first visit to Emporis in a couple of weeks, I found that they created an entirely new skyline image (rare) to use for the New Orleans city page. And unlike the last image, I think this one is great. It manages to include all of the tallest skyscrapers in the city, along with nearly all of the mid-sized high-rises, and even manages to include New Orleans icons like the Superdome, Charity Hospital, Saint Louis Cathedral, and the Mississippi River with the Crescent City Connection.

Thanks for revving up this once active thread Nate I can dig it! Whoever did that sketch of the NOLA skyline did a nice job. Interesting how some of the buildings are Mardi Gras colored. I like how they included all the buildings too; like St.Louis Cathedral(far left) and the NO Arena. I like Plaza Tower to the right; I don't care what nobody says. Was Harrah's new hotel included?? Not sure? Definetly a Top 20 Skyline in the US that does Louisiana proud!

Maybe one day BR's malnutritioned skyline can be included?? Maybe if some of the current projects get finished? They could always add the taller builings outside of downtown(like the Marriott, Shaw, etc.) Even Tiger Stadium to the far right. Also throw in other mid-rise type structures like the Old State Capitol, Shaw Center for the Arts(approx. 100'ft. tall), Hilton Capitol Center, Planetarium, etc.

It's my favorite picture of Baton Rouge. It may not be a New Orleans skyline, but it will be Omaha and Memphis grade pretty soon.

Yes indeed, Slidell, that's a fantastic BR skyline shot! I've never seen that angle from across the river; I usually see the angle from straight across the river, which I think is the least flattering because it doesn't show any density. (same problem with the angle of the New Orleans skyline from across the river)

Wow! Yes indeed! Great shot of the NOLA skyline!!!! Very balanced, and thick with mid-rises that just might put it ahead of Charlotte.! Easily as U.S. Top 20 Skyline. Pic looks almost unreal.

I have been suprised to see many cities with nice skylines can look less impressive just by seeing it from different(the wrong) angles.

Nice pics Nate another great angle of the New Orleans skyline! Metairie's skyline impresses me with a 400' ft. high-rise.....

Also impressive; in a city as small as Lake Charles(less than 75,000) with the 22-story/ 300' ft. Capital One Bank Tower that dominates the skyline.

Sorry not the best pic; I got this on my trip back from Houston. This is most of the skyline; not pictured a few miles away the 26-story L'Auberge Du Lac hotel/casino is probably about the same height as Capital One Bank Tower??

This used to be one of my favorite threads on UP; and one of the more active threads going in Louisiana...guess there are only so many "Skyline Battles" to go round....

Minneapolis has to have one of the Top 15 U.S. Skylines IMO; and the 225 South Sixth Street has to be one of my favorites!! At 776' feet tall (56-stories) it's the city's 2nd Tallest Skyscraper. What really stands out is the unique semi-circular steel crown serves as a screen for cooling towers and antennae.

Man how I miss this thread...it was rockin' and rollin' at one time! Once we ran out of Louisiana Skylines to talk about..there were some great "Skyline Battles" a few years back...like NOLA vs Charlotte; Houston vs L.A./Philly & Toronto; Seattle vs Dallas; Nashville vs Louisville; KC vs St.Louis + too many to name & International match-up's like Paris-Boston; Singapore vs L.A.; Seattle vs Sydney etc...

Cincinnati got the edge over Portland..and their skyline is even looking better with the addition of the city's New Tallest Great American Tower that just finished topping out 41-floors/660'ft

This building surpassed the Carew Tower(1930) to become the city's new tallest, ending Cincinnati's long reign as the largest US city whose tallest building ever built was completed prior to World War II.

Im from Memphis and our best skyline picture does not come from across the river but from midtown behind downtown. It truly shows the height of the buildings and how many there are.

This shot really compresses the buildings and makes downtown look much more dense versus the normal Port Allen skyline photo.

That's the best angle to show density of the skyline... but we need to get the "entire " skyline to include the new II City Plaza & new Courthouse (not shown in pic off to the right). That means getting further back than the Belle's parking garage...Easier said than done to get this shot bec it would require finding a way to get up on the rail walk way up under the Miss River Bridge.

I don't remember seeing any from 1-10 coming into the city. They are visible from 110 though. When I come during winter I want to get some better shots of the CBD, including a shot from the east side of I-110, is there a good location to shoot from?
