Telephone Poles/Power Lines

And as an added bonus, Duke Power won't raise rates to cover the cost for clean-up. STORY

Don't you all feel lucky.

I have Laurens Electric, and I never lost power. In fact, if you noticed on the map in the paper showing outages, there were significantly less outages in the Laurens Electric coverage area. To be fair, the weather may have been different south of the interstate.

I am so grateful to Duke Power for not raising rates. It is incredibly generous of them.

I have a question about burying the lines. Duke Energy has said that they are willing to bury the lines if the community foots the bill. Since they have a monopoly, does the state, county, or city have any control over what company is chosen to supply the area with electricity? Does the community have any leverage in this issue?
