Back for a second year, the VMAs return to the Magic City. The red carpet gets rolled out Sunday, August 28th, at the American Airlines Arena in downtown Miami. Unlike last year, the show will have a host this time, with P. Diddy at the helm.

Four radio stations, WPOW Power 96 (96.5), WEDR 99 JAMZ (99.1FM), WHYI Y-100.7 (100.7FM), and WMIB 103.5 The Beat (103.5FM), will be giving away tickets.

Tickets went on sale today for the VMAs. Only South Florida residents will get a chance to purchase tickets for the August 28th show at American Airlines Arena. Tickets will cost anywhere between $100 and $200. Local media outlets will be giving away tickets as well.

Starting August 24, tickets will be awarded at the Doubletree Surfcomber hotel in Miami Beach, located at 17th and Collins.

The network is taking over the 185-room hotel Aug. 24-28 and will revamp the patio and pool deck with a concert stage, an enclosed nightclub, a basketball court and barbecue grills. Inside, the hotel will feature flat-screen TVs and a sound system for round-the-clock music.

Hotel MTV events will be free; street teams, radio stations and The Herald will be giving away tickets to the events.

[MTV producers] plan to transform AmericanAirlines Arena into a water-themed spectacle, with an imposing indoor fountain and five stages for performances by artists such as Green Day, The Killers, Kanye West, Kelly Clarkson, Mariah Carey, Shakira, Ludacris and others.

I think it's awesome that they keep choosing MIAMI as the host for the VMA's. It really says something about a city's culture level, and how much national attention it gets.

Too bad about this stupid hurricane.... Though we have been kinda lucky this hurricane season, with the exception of our poor Panhandle friends....

It's kinda funny that this happened on the anniversary date of Hurricane Andrew (Aug 24).

They took the Moon Man down from the front of Hotel MTV (the DoubleTree Surfcomber Hotel)... The award show is still scheduled to go on as planned.

I think winter would be better anyways -- the weather would be a great bragging right. It would be similar to one of those Sprite commercials that came out about 10 years ago (anybody remember "Jooky"?).
