Has anyone got any news about the Mackay Tower in downtown Anchorage?  When I last saw it, it was a boarded up pink horror.  It's a neat building though, with lots of possibilities.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Well in 1999, a developer bought it and sanded off the pink paint. However, due to money shortage, it has been sitting all gray with scaffolding allover it for since then. Luckily since the start of this summer, the city supplied the developer with a grant to restore the building to its natural appearence as it was first seen back in 1952. That being a cream color with green strips running up and down.

The first four floors will be senior housing while the top 10 will be condo and studio spaces. The building was painted pink when a lawyer bought it in the 70's and tried to convert the building into office space. He was forced to abandon the project due to the structure not being up to code after it was damaged in the 9.2 1964 earthquake.

hope that helps.
