Doesn't Leon County (or the City of Tallahassee) have a required amount of "greenage" that you have to leave when constructing a new building? I thought I heard/read that somewhere once, but I'm not completely positive. I certainly love it that we have trees and grass everywhere. I, frankly, would be depressed if it were to all be concrete and brick. Growing up in Wakulla has me quite fond of trees.

Yes... for the most part you basically have to either replace any vegitation you remove such as trees, or leave them alone. Also, for many places outside of the downtown, you must install retention ponds.

This makes for quite a unique concept if done properly.

I wish we had better enforcement for the DEP's regulations. I know there are alot of horrible stories about developers getting around the laws one way or another. I like to think everyone is interested in the presservation of a functioning enviroment to live in....

You know whats also funny is this affordable housing ordinance the city passed with the exemption...

basically... you build some affordable homes, or we'll penalize you $10,000 or something. It seems, the developers would rather be slapped with the $10,000 fine than build affordable homes... at least thats the vibe I get.

Tallahassee's First "Skyscraper"

At 6 stories, it was the city's tallest building throughout the early 1900s.

still impressive from the east side ascent to Monroe. Still fully occupied too i think.

We could add 4 stories to that building. It would be even more impressive.

For some reason, I think they are going to leave this one alone. But it would be nice to have it go up a little taller.

I worked through school at a law firm in the building. It was very cool. I can still remember the staircases.
