I believe that is temporary for construction.  It should be converted back into a courtyard of some sorts anytime now.

Are they going to repaint the window mullions on the original building bronze to match the new ones they painted?   I thought someone said they were going to do that, but maybe I'm wrong.

Can confirm. Once they don't need the space next to the building for construction staging, they'll move around to the front and finish the plaza. The rest of the iron fencing will come down and a cool tribute to the old mint building will be installed. I would expect this to be the very last thing on the list though...

Yes, there is still a long time left before this project is finished. Once the new building is fully operational, staff will move out of the historic portion so it can be fully renovated (inside & out).

^^ this really turned out great blends right in with the older building. and as I said during the steel framing it is the strongest building in town and most likely to survive an F5 tornado or earthquake.

The impression is to be certain that everyone going inside knows that the accumulated money, power and authority of the federal government is on display so cop a plea if you can.  History, beauty, and quality also. Mostly that first part, though.

Yes, I see what you mean.  But on balance I think they did a great job trying to maintain the architectural character of the old building, rather than taking the easy route and doing something more modern like they're used to designing.  Usually with these types of projects you end up with a loss of aesthetics and buildings with looks and features that clash with one another.

I think saying it looks "exactly" like the original is being a bit too gracious, but at a certain point you cannot replicate the effects of aging. With that being said, IMO it looks like a 1930's-1940's addition to the structure, rather than a 2020-21 addition, which is something. I'd have almost have vouched for a modernist addition if it were smaller, but on this scale I think sticking to the original architectural style was appropriate, my only complaint being the columns should have been made cylindrical.

Completely agree, its slightly art deco without the level of decorative elements and it needs more.
