Jonas Federal Courthouse Renovation

Recommended Posts

I couldn't get a definite answer if they were going to tear her down or not, scared me for a moment. They'll keep the building thank god. Sure, expand the building and modernize it.

Dueling cranes up at the Jonas Federal Courthouse.  How tall is this exactly I know about 9 stories but the floor height is high I know.

Drive bys taken by my passenger.

For a nearby comparison, about half the height of Trademark.

I think it’s going to be just shy of the first setback on Trademark which is at floor 18.

I like how this looks very early/mid-20th Century.

I know it's been stated before, but can someone remind me what the materials being used are? Is it stone?

I remember you posting a rendering very similar to this. Maybe they stole it :tw_joy:

Thank you for this!  He has explained perfectly the things I have always felt about modern-day architecture but could not put into words.

This area is going to have a nice vibe with the courthouse and the Grand Bohemian Hotel. I know it couldn’t sit in the exact same spot, but if only we could find a way to move the original Mint back to Mint Street and build an exact replica of the Hotel Charlotte.  I love modern Charlotte but I do wish a little more of our past had survived.

I have high hopes for this stretch of Trade St as well, but much will depend on what goes across the street from TradeMark... sooo much potential in that parking lot.

I have a friend on the council for the church, and he indicated to me that they are nowhere near making any decisions.

I remember reading an article that said this building would take 8 years to complete...like wtf lol. Maybe they meant 8 years from planning to finished.

I remember 5 years. 3 years for the new building to complete. Think that clock started running July’ish last year probably. Then 2 years for the renovation and refurbishment of the current building.

The new tower should be done in about a year and a half, then the renovation will start and be done about two years later. Any work involving buildings that are still in operation (and sensitive operations at that) is slower-going than otherwise.

This has the potential to be a wonderful addition. Regal with a lot of character because of the unique style. I really hope they don't screw it up.
