Currently, Virginia Beach's tallest is the 23 storey AH Tower in our Town Center ..

but its position will be unseated by a new 38 storey Westin (also located in Town Center) which will break ground next month. The Westin, at 501 feet tall, will be the tallest in the state.  :)

Tallahasse Fla has been towered by the State Capital building in its 99m, 22 floor form since the 70's. Atop a hill in hilly tally, the building offers amazing views from the panaramic observation floor. Shown below from the north.

and a couple top floor views of why FLA is blowing up!

South view (they say you can see the gulf of mexico, but i have heard from the highest authorities that this is only an urban legend, but taking off from tallahassee regional airport, the capital building isnt too far shy of such a view!)

Greenville, South Carolina:

The Landmark Building, constructed in 1966 (and it looks it, too) is 305 ft (93 m) tall with 22 floors.

The Tower at Falls and Broad has been proposed and approved; however, it is currently under-going re-design. The current design calls for it to be 350 ft (107 m) tall with 20 floors.

Providence's current tallest is the 428 foot Bank of America Building (aka The Superman Building) built in 1927.

In 2008 OneTen Westminster will eclipse The Superman Building to become the new tallest building in Rhode Island at 520 feet.

This is University Tower in Durham. It's the tallest building in town (17 stories plus a spire on top, altogether 358 feet), but unfortunately it's a few miles outside the downtown district, surrounded by big-box stores and cul-de-sac apartments. Locals call it "the pickle building".

OKLAHOMA CITY

Tallest building: Chase Tower

Height: 500 ft

Floors: 36

Completed: 1971

Primary tenants: Chase Bank, Devon Energy

There is talk that Devon, OKC's largest corporation, will soon build a new tower, perhaps exceeding Chase Tower. They currently use almost all of Chase Tower and all 20 or so floors of the neighboring Mid-America Tower.

In Minneapolis it is the IDS tower: 241 m, 55 stories and built in 1973.

The Wells Fargo Tower (formerly Norwest Bank) is 236 m, 57 stories and built in 1988.

The Wells Fargo Tower was purposely build to be shorter then the IDS. However, recently a construction worker on the Wells Fargo tower claims he altered the plans and added to the top of the building so that it would be the tallest building --it is a min-scandal!

IDS is the tall building on the Left (two antenn.). The WellsFargo building is on the far right.

Actually, 225 South Sixth is taller than either of them. IDS had to "add" the antennas to re-claim that honor, thus billing itself as 911 feet tall, instead of 779.

Wells Fargo was supposed to be 964 feet tall, and 225 South Sixth was supposed to be over 1,000 feet tall, but had to be scaled back due to some bogus b.s.

The above picture contains the current tallest for Nashville, the Bellsouth Tower (Far Right) at 617'.

However, the Signature Tower is pretty much a done deal and will eclipse everything else at a minimum of 55 floors and 850'. Signature is the spire building in the middle and is depected as it will look when built.

Silly law....

The same law currently applies in Baton Rouge as well. No buildings may be taller than the Louisiana State Capitol, which is around 440 feet tall. Though as larger bussineses start to express interest in downtown towers in the 500 foot range, that law might be edited or taken away all together.

Yep, the halo building is technically the tallest by few feet (supposed extra ductwork during construction) But I thought the IDS added something "structural" to the top, which is the whole tale about adding the storage and window washing station at the top. Weren't the antennaes always there? Anyway, the whole thing is kinda silly.

I think the bogus scaling back for so many of the projects was in "Reverence to the IDS", like the building is the Third Coming of Jesus Christ in skycraper format. Funny, when the thing was built in the 70s, people almost went into the funny farm over their hatred for it. Then in the 80s, nobody wanted to rudely de-throne it in height.

LOL, to answer the question, its essentially a 3-way tie in Minneapolis (IMO) with the IDS, Wells Fargo and 225 South Sixth.
