City Profile: Detroit

This list is still very much under construction. I actually started it late last year, but just made it visible to you all today. I will be adding more links & info as I have time.

There was a Detroit links thread before, but I'm not sure what happened to it. I guess it got unpinned or moved elsewhere for some reason.

Have you thought about putting a couple of skyline, streetscape, and monument pics throughout it? say, at the beginning and end of it?

It's there...just not under blogs, since it is not a blog. There is only one site I am intentionally leaving off the list, since the site's owner decided to start being a jerk to me.

Thanks Allan for the add. The more we see of our city, perhaps the more good can come. We're doing what we can. DetroitYes, we'd like to promote you too but somehow we can't sign up on a yahoo address and would rather not use our ISP's address.

Photoshop. I fully intend to make much better graphics, but my life is getting more and more hectic with each passing hour. I'm not going to tell you that the graphics will get done in two weeks, because I will sound like Kwame and the Book-Cadillac deal..."only two more weeks." Look for improved graphics around Thanksgiving or Christmas.

^Do you have to pay for photoshop?

The closest things I have to graphics editors are Powerpoint and Paint. LOL

Well, you can illegally download it, get it from your university, or pay a whole bunch of money for it. If none of those are options, I recommend photoshop elements. It does most of what photoshop does for less than $100.

If you want a free image editor, use the Gimp.

I've heard about that one (GIMP), too.

Is it as good as photoshop?

BTW: I also have a Kodak Photo Editor on my computer which could help.

I haven't used the Gimp for anything other than resizing or putting copyright info on my photos, so I'm not very experienced with it. It did what I needed it to do, although I didn't like the interface much. It works pretty good for a free program. Download it and see how it works for you...it's not that difficult to learn the basic stuff.

I haven't used Kodak image editor, so I'm totally clueless there. I do know that this computer had some image editing software on it when I got it, but I don't know what it's called, and I've never used it....

ironchapman, you can download photoshop CS2 free and use it for 30 days. Before you do, you must become an adobe user. Being a user, you can try all of adobe's products at no charge. What is unusual though, is that you can usually keep downloading the trial version over and over again after it expires. So essentially, you have a legal copy, but aren't paying lol. (I don't know if this still works). Of course, I no longer use the trial versions. Let's just say I have some strong connections in the architecture school. . But back on topic, nice thread Allan. This will help for people not to familiar with the D.

Haha, I didn't know that about Adobe. It would be a pain but it if it saves you $600....

At least it's not like Autodesk Revit...that thing is the most overpriced program on the planet. For $4700 it can be yours! My uncle's architecture firm was going to upgrade the whole office to it, but it cost so much money that they only did half.

This thread is so incredibly off topic. Eventually I'll clean it up a bit so only the profile-related posts are on here.

Heh, you should see the Atlanta profile. Many of the posts are all that remains of chris121091's 10,000 alteregos.

Actually, it's not that far off topic. This could be educational for those of us who will be doing (more) profiles in the future

BTW: Have you any plans to create a GR or Lansing, or is joeDowntown going to do that?
