Ballpark Tour Update

I followed-up with Nate Lipscomb on Friday about the tour. He responded and is still willing to give us a peek at the ballpark; however, I'm faced with the classic catch 22. I can't really schedule a date/time until he knows how many people will be in attendance. I can't give him an exact number until we know the exact date/time since so many of us are in and out of town so often. So, I'll go with the high estimate.

Nate wants to meet with me some time soon to discuss this, so I'll need to get a rough estimate of the number planned to be in attendance when we meet.

Please assume that you will all be in town around the end of March or first of April. If you are interested in getting an escorted tour of the new ballpark, please send me a P.M. by the end of next week (Friday, February 10, 2006) to tell me how many will be in your party.

I'll set up a meeting with Nate for after the 10th and will provide him with a rough head count then.

I could be misinterpreting this, but through a job offer I recieved from the Greenville Drive, it seems the ballpark may have a "large" screen playing videos and live footage during home games. This would be awesome and ensure the satisfaction of everyone in attendence. I can't be positive until I inquire, because it could be refering to multiple TVs scattered around the concourse and in the club suites instead. Either way, this will be a cool addition to the park! :shades:

No, your not misinterpreting that. It is true that there is going to be a video tron in the outfield that does show live footage during home games and fans kind of like how they do at Grrrowl games but only better and more better picture quality. It will measure 15' by 20'. It says so here about them having the video tron: http://www.greenvilledrive.com/stadium/ I'm not sure if there will be smaller TV's or not in the concourse though. That would be cool if that were to happen.

Some progress of note from the West End Ballpark:

  • The green metal roof is almost complete
  • The Greenville Monster (and the rest of the outfield wall) are starting to turn GREEN
  • The field is undergoing final preparation for sod to be put in place soon (presumably within the next week or two)

The camera was at home and the batteries were on the charger, so I'll have to get out there tomorrow morning and take some photos.

It's re-purposed from an old abandoned textile mill. This type of material is being used on several projects around the area: the West End Ballpark, the Shops at Mills Mill, and the Point, to name a few.

I remember reading that it is from the Joana Mill in Union. It is the same sutff used at the Shops @ The Point.

Watch the news this evening because there will be a "tour" of the ballpark as it stands today. News Channel 7 will cover it, and I assume News 4 will as well since they had a live reporter there this morning. Must be Media Day or something...

I didn't see anything on Channel 7 about the ballpark last night at 6:00pm. I'd like to know if the sod is going down for sure though, so I can try to make an effort to snap some photos. I tried to watch the live Web Cam, but it was down all day yesterday.

So, if anybody sees that it's going down, be sure to announce it!

It didn't go down as expected, but yesterday was a media day of sorts, apparently due to the fact that it was exactly 2-months away from opening night at the ballpark (April 6). I watched WYFF who did cover the ballpark, giving a "tour" of the facilities and interviewing the Drive manager and a few others about the progress. I'm sorry WSPA didn't air that story, because they had told their audience that they would have an update with a tour later in the day - Maybe they meant at 11:00pm? They were flying their new helicopter over the ballpark shortly after noon, so they should have some coverage at least. The Greenville News also has a story and photos from yesterday.

I don't like how their going to put in bleacher seatings at the end of the stadium on the first base side. It makes it look like the stadium was built cheaply. What new stadium have you've seen with bleacher seating? I think all the seats should have backs like at the bilo center. I remember at the old stadium how ugly and uncomfortable they were.

The bleacher seating and the grass berm seating are there to provide general admission tickets at lower cost points than the reserved seating (seat backs).
